Brief Resume of Dr. Pratap Singh Birthal

 

Dr Pratap Singh Birthal (b 1963) is Principal Scientist at the National Centre for Agricultural Economics and Policy Research (NCAP), New Delhi, India. His research interests include Livestock Development Policy, Agricultural Diversification, Institutional Economics, Agribusiness Management and Impact Assessment.  Dr. P. S. Birthal has published more than 60 research articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals, 20 books/policy papers and 7 policy briefs. He has been twice awarded with DK Desai Prize by the Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, and is a recipient of Young Scientist Award from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). He was conferred National Fellowship by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to work on contemporary issues in livestock research and development in 2005, and was elected Fellow of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 2010.

Dr. P. S. Birthal has been a consultant to many national and international research and development organizations, like International Food Policy Research Institute, International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics, International Livestock Research Institute and World Bank. He also served the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics for three years starting May 2008.
