Dr. B.Ganesh Kumar

Dr. B. Ganesh Kumar (born in 1972) is a Senior Scientist working at this Centre from 2007. He belonged to 1999 ARS batch. He is specialized in Livestock Economics/ Dairy Economics. He is graduated from Tamil Nadu Veterinary & Animal Sciences University in 1995 and was awarded Ph.D. in Animal Husbandry Economics from the same University in 2001. He studied M.Sc. (Dairying) in Dairy Economics from National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal with merit certificate for obtaining University second rank in dairy management group of subjects in 1997. He was the recipient of ICAR Merit Scholarship in B.V.Sc., ICAR Junior Research Fellowship in M.Sc. and CSIR Senior Research Fellowship in Ph.D. He studied on technological change in dairy farming in Tamil Nadu during his doctoral programme. After joining service in ICAR, he was working for about 6 years in Central Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar islands. He worked with multi-disciplinary scientists in coastal agro-ecosystem especially on poultry farming, production & marketing of perishables such as vegetables, fruits, fishes and flowers, socio-economics of coastal fishermen, IPM of crops, dairy farming, livestock diseases, etc. He has produced a video film on ‘Nicobari fowls’ under NATP funding, which is now available at DIPA, New Delhi as ICAR Short Film No.10. He was one of the study team members for ‘State Development Report of Andaman & Nicobar islands’ prepared by National Institute of Public Finance & Policy under the instruction of Planning Commission. He was the recipient of ICAR award for Outstanding Team Research for the biennium 2001-2002. At NCAP, he is working on Impact Assessment of Fisheries Research, Economic Impact of Animal Diseases such as FMD and Avian Flu, Marketing System of Fish and Fishery Products, Growth Dynamics of Poultry Sector etc. He is the Member-Secretary / Convener of Agricultural Growth & Modeling theme area at present.
