Dr. B.C.Barah
|
Dr. B. C. Barah is a principal scientist (economics) at NCAP, India currently leading the theme area of Agricultural Growth, Adjustment and Outlook, providing leadership to a number of inter-disciplinary professional members. He is also a member of the team in the thematic area of Sustainable Agriculture. Dr. B. C. Barah's wide ranging exposures include understanding of the grass root micro level reality of Indian rural scene to national and international scenario. Besides the research advisory, Dr. B. C. Barah is also responsible for fund-mobilization, research, networking and policy advocacy on agriculture and rural development. Several years of research in the unfavourable production environment (SAT and rainfed) has provided desired empirical parameters for policy intervention and identifying R&D needs for productivity enhancing, resource conserving and income generation for the vulnerable small farmers the poor. The major research areas include agricultural risk and uncertainty, pattern of agricultural growth and constraints to development, water resource development and ecological implications, environmental sustainability, demand and supply analysis, rural institutional innovations, environmental economics and policy advocacy. He also devotes his time on IT facilitation and networking in agricultural economics research. Dr. B. C. Barah has a high class Ph.D. degree in the applied econometrics. He served various institutions including the International crops research Institute for semi arid & topics (ICRISAT), Central University of Hyderabad, NABARD, Mumbai, Cornell University, New York, Duke University, Durham, NC, USA, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Manila, Asian Productivity Organisation (APO), Tokyo, before taking up the present position at NCAP. Dr. B. C. Barah published a number of research papers in national, local and international journals, technical reports/bulletins and books. |
